*Me’Shell NDegeocello’s Earth on repeat*

Each filled with lover’s
Lament, begging for a change
In us.
But, we have been here before,
Broken in two.
Halves trying to get whole.

I turn each page,
Remembering your scent--
Passion fruit and lemon,
Sweet and sour,
Just like your demeanor.
I bathe in every word,
Wash my body in
The curls of your
Ss, the dots of your Is.

With hugs and kisses,
Intently urging me with
Potent paragraphs full of
Your native tongue.
We were supposed to
Shop in Paris, fight in
Spain, and make love in
Africa.

Guess that won't be happening.

Sun peeked into
My window, glaring over
The pages. Your face appeared,
Earth, strong as old dirt,
Bold as new love.
I let a tear fall while folding
Your words neatly into
Each other.

With you when you
Took my mind
And, I’d like both of
Them back.
