I Can’t Stand The Rain Against My Window, Bringing Back Sweet Memories ©Ann Peebles

Scarred

gently, I come to you—
it is important that I do not
frighten what’s left of your
soul.
smoothing out the wrinkles,
I visibly see an essence
not yet discovered.

I explore every detail,
knowing that trouble is ahead.
I am not disturbed for I do
not fear many things—
and you, you allow me
time to find what I need.

sour is the wind that passes
our faces, kisses us with want,
and surrenders to our voices.
we have conquered the beginning,
now, we must wait.
forever is a slow process—
I am patient…

I hold your secrets, cupping
them in my hands.
fragile as they are,
I know their origin and love
you even more.
I am ready to heal your scars,
I actually want to.
