You do not age
You cannot
Twenty-nine years later,
your smile remains.
I know it. I love it.
It has been my peace.

How have we managed
to stick in each other's corners
for so long? A huge gap
couldn't stop us, distance
has no chance.

We are thicker than thieves,
not stealing anything other than
moments of reflection
and seconds of gratitude for
the gift of us.

You wear forty well.
It suits your skin, marries the
brown of your eyes, and
ignites the glow of your heart.
If I have decades added to
my life, it is because
you’ve helped to keep me sane.

This day is a reminder for us:
we're still here and forty years
from now, may it
be the same.

Author’s Note: A most incredible Happy Birthday to my friend who is my sister. May you have many more and may I still be here to share them with you.
