*If God One Day Struck Me Blind, Your Beauty I’d Still See. ©Prince*

I was broken once…
You came to me, willing
To chisel and fine tune
Rough edges, smoothing out the
Wrinkles of my life.
I watched you as you carefully
Calculated every brush, every comb–
You made me new.

I never thanked you for your efforts,
You did not have to rescue me,
But, you did.
Thunder shakes my soul,
Reminding me of past lives,
Forgoing experience.
I denied you happiness.

I would say,
“You’re not for the Now Me,
I needed you Then.”
You never understood.
We couldn’t work–
Our untimely meeting
Blew in the wind,
Attacked by the crows.

Seemingly, we would be
A late night meal–
Choice finds for a homeless mind.
And today, when you called,
I answered.
The depth of your breath
Entered the receiver and love
Sauntered in, doing tricks.

Not today, LOVE.
Not today.
